DESTINATIONS

Cities worth understanding, not merely collecting.

Each destination has a different rhythm. These notes help travellers decide how many nights to allow, what makes each place distinctive and which combinations work well.

Humayun's Tomb Delhi

DELHI · 2–3 NIGHTS

Delhi

Delhi is not a single historical city but a succession of capitals. Old Delhi's dense lanes and markets sit beside Mughal monuments, colonial avenues, contemporary neighbourhoods and major religious sites.

What deserves time

Old Delhi, Humayun's Tomb, Qutub Minar, selected New Delhi landmarks, gardens and places of worship. A first afternoon should remain light after an international arrival.

  • Best combined with Agra and Jaipur
  • Allow two nights minimum for a first visit
  • Use a local guide for Old Delhi if deeper context is desired
Taj Mahal

AGRA · 1–2 NIGHTS

Agra

The Taj Mahal is the centrepiece, but Agra also contains Agra Fort, Mughal garden traditions, craft workshops and the wider history of the Yamuna riverfront.

What deserves time

Plan the Taj Mahal around light, opening hours and weekly closure. Agra Fort should not be reduced to a rushed add-on before a long transfer.

  • Best combined with Delhi, Jaipur or Gwalior
  • One night is workable; two create a calmer pace
  • Fatehpur Sikri fits naturally on the road toward Jaipur
Hawa Mahal Jaipur

JAIPUR · 2–3 NIGHTS

Jaipur

Jaipur combines royal architecture with a living old city. Amber Fort, Hawa Mahal, City Palace and Jantar Mantar are only part of the experience; markets, textiles, jewellery and block printing give the city much of its character.

What deserves time

Reserve one day for Amber and nearby sights, and another for the old city. A third night supports workshops, shopping or a slower photographic itinerary.

  • Best combined with Delhi, Agra, Pushkar and Ranthambore
  • Two full days are preferable
  • Excellent for architecture, crafts and food
Mehrangarh Fort in Jodhpur

JODHPUR · 2 NIGHTS

Jodhpur

Mehrangarh Fort dominates the city, but Jodhpur also rewards time in the Blue City lanes, markets and viewpoints beneath the fort.

What deserves time

One full sightseeing day plus an evening and morning is usually sufficient. The road onward to Udaipur becomes more interesting when Ranakpur is included.

  • Best combined with Pushkar, Jaisalmer and Udaipur
  • Two nights recommended
  • Strong choice for fort architecture and street photography
Lake Palace on Lake Pichola in Udaipur

UDAIPUR · 2–3 NIGHTS

Udaipur

Udaipur's lakes and palaces create a softer conclusion to a Rajasthan circuit. The City Palace, Lake Pichola, old-city streets and surrounding Aravalli landscape are best enjoyed without excessive scheduling.

What deserves time

Two nights are the minimum; three suit couples and travellers who want a slower pace. Ranakpur can be visited on the road from Jodhpur.

  • Best combined with Jodhpur, Chittorgarh or Bundi
  • Ideal final stop in Rajasthan
  • Suitable for architecture, leisure and photography
Monks seated beside the Ganges in Varanasi

VARANASI · 2–3 NIGHTS

Varanasi

Varanasi is experienced through time of day: dawn on the Ganges, the old lanes, rituals at the ghats, evening Aarti and the quieter archaeological context of Sarnath.

What deserves time

At least two nights are necessary to experience both morning and evening. Three nights allow flexibility for weather, river conditions and a more reflective visit.

  • Best reached by train or domestic flight from distant routes
  • Combine with Sarnath, Prayagraj or Lucknow
  • Not a destination to compress into one afternoon
Royal cenotaphs of Orchha

ORCHHA · 1–2 NIGHTS

Orchha

Orchha offers a smaller-scale historical experience beside the Betwa River, with palaces, temples and royal cenotaphs that can be explored without the intensity of a large city.

What deserves time

One full day covers the principal monuments; two nights provide better light, quieter hours and time by the river.

  • Works naturally between Gwalior/Jhansi and Khajuraho
  • Good for architecture and slower travel
  • Useful contrast to major urban centres
Kandariya Mahadeva Temple at Khajuraho

KHAJURAHO · 1–2 NIGHTS

Khajuraho

The temple groups are celebrated for their sculpture, but their broader value lies in architecture, religious diversity and the artistic culture of the Chandela period.

What deserves time

Allow enough time for the Western Group and at least selected Eastern or Jain temples. A museum or guided interpretation adds significant context.

  • Best combined with Orchha and Panna
  • One night is possible; two are more comfortable
  • Can connect onward by rail or air depending on the route
Snow-covered mountains and the village of Tosh in Himachal Pradesh, Indian Himalayas

INDIAN HIMALAYAS · 5–12 NIGHTS

Himalaya

The Indian Himalayas offer a completely different journey: mountain roads, quiet valleys, Buddhist monasteries, hill towns and dramatic landscapes across Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Kashmir and Ladakh.

What deserves time

Mountain itineraries must be planned around altitude, weather and realistic driving times. The exact route depends on the season, road conditions and the regions travellers want to explore.

  • Ideal for nature, photography and slower journeys
  • Routes can include Shimla, Manali, Dharamshala, Ladakh or Uttarakhand
  • Best planned as a dedicated itinerary rather than a rushed extension
